Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Bikipi

General

What is Bikipi?
Bikipi is a mobile app that connects cycle tourists with caring hosts for free accommodation. Like a next-generation Warmshowers.
Is Bikipi free?
Yes, Bikipi is free. No registration fees, no commission, no hidden costs.
On which platforms is Bikipi available?
Bikipi is available on iOS and Android. A limited web version is also available.
How is Bikipi different from Warmshowers?
Bikipi offers a modern mobile experience, an interactive map with advanced filters, a structured booking system and built-in messaging. All for free.
Do I need to be an experienced cyclist to use Bikipi?
Not at all. Bikipi is open to every cycle tourist, from a weekend ride to a round-the-world trip. Whether you ride 30 or 300 km a day, you are welcome.
How does Bikipi make money?
Bikipi is a non-profit project supported by community donations and the volunteer work of its founders. No ads, and we never sell your data.
Is Bikipi available in my country?
Yes. Bikipi is open worldwide: the map shows hosts wherever the community already exists, mostly in Europe so far but well beyond too. If your area still looks empty, becoming a host is the best way to put it on the map.

For travelers

How do I find accommodation?
Open the map, explore available hosts along your route and send a booking request. The host receives a notification and can accept or decline.
Can I filter accommodation?
Yes, filter by type (room, couch, camping), amenities (shower, kitchen, WiFi), and availability.
How do I contact a host?
Via Bikipi's built-in messaging. You can chat before, during and after your stay.
How far in advance should I book?
There is no strict rule. Some hosts welcome last-minute requests, others prefer a few days' notice. Check the preferences shown on each profile.
What if no host is available along my route?
Widen your search, try other dates, or contact hosts nearby. The community grows every day and new hosts join regularly.
How many nights can I stay?
Usually one or two nights, the time of a single stage. Some hosts accept longer stays, especially if you are exhausted, the weather turns bad or your bike needs repairs — just ask.
Do I owe my host anything?
Nothing financially: hosting is always free and no payment is expected. What matters is the exchange — sharing your journey, lending a hand, cooking, or simply leaving the place as clean as you found it.

For hosts

What do I need to offer?
Whatever you want! A couch, a spare room, a corner of your garden for a tent... Even just access to a shower and a morning coffee makes a difference.
Can I decline a request?
Absolutely. You are free to accept or decline each request. No obligation.
Can I mark my place as unavailable?
Yes, you can switch your availability on and off at any time from your profile. Handy when you are away or simply need a break.
Do I have to host people overnight?
No. You can offer only a shower, a meal, a coffee or local advice. Every gesture counts for a cycle tourist on the road.
How do I welcome a cycle tourist well?
A safe spot for the bike, access to a shower and somewhere to sleep are the basics. The warmth of the welcome matters most: share your local tips, a meal or simply a conversation.
Am I liable if something goes wrong?
Bikipi connects people and is not a party to the stay. As with any guest, your home insurance applies — a quick call to your insurer clears up any doubt. You are always free to decline a request.
How long do I have to answer a request?
The sooner the better: a cycle tourist on the road needs to know where they will sleep. Bikipi sends you reminders, and an unanswered request expires on its own so the traveller can look elsewhere.

Security

How is safety ensured?
Email-verified profiles, review system after each stay, built-in messaging, and active community moderation.
What if there is a problem?
Contact our team via the app or by email at [email protected]. We take every report seriously.
Is my personal data protected?
Yes. We comply with the GDPR, never sell data and run no targeted advertising. We only collect what the service needs to work.
How does the review system work?
After each stay, traveller and host can leave a review. Reviews are public and let the community regulate itself — good reviews build trust.
Will my bike be safe?
Hosts state on their profile whether they have an enclosed space (garage, cellar, garden) for bikes, and it is a search filter of its own. If in doubt, ask in the chat before booking.
What if my host does not reply or cancels?
An unanswered request expires automatically so you are not left waiting, and you can contact several hosts. Always keep a backup plan (campsite, wild camping) — that is bike touring 101.
